Munila Baptism

Yo, what up Family!

Solid week this week. I hope everyone’s Valentines was tight! I sure miss all of you guys! My week honestly consisted on a lot of splits with other missionaries. It was tight cause all the guys in my district are mostly from my Kauhu. They were in the mtc with me. I got to kick it with a lot of those guys.

My legs have been getting bad again. So I’ve been taking these pills that have been helping them clear up.

I’m honestly going to make this email short because we’re at a members house and the internet here. You have to buy credit, like gigabytes and so me and my comp try to write fast cause its not cheap here.

But, the big update was we didn’t baptize Kesipeni but we baptized Munila! It was tight! I was so happy and she’s such a sweet heart. So we finally got a missionary ward leader, and Tongans here sort of take the role seriously so we’ve been going on splits with him and inviting people to come to church who are mamalohi or like non active and me and my comp were like straight up murmuring (; hahah but it’s cause we would go visit everyone Friday then Saturday night and then wake up at 6 to go invite everyone again in the morn before church. But, the thing is, everyone has been coming to church and staying the whole 3 hours! So I had a lot of repenting to do for complaining so much. I honestly felt bad, but seeing all the progress has been making me so happy and I give so much credit to our ward leader. But nothing to crazy has gone down.

I might go crazy if I have to stay here another transfer. They said some of us might be training, so I am nervous for that, but its whatevers. But I miss and love all of you guys! Give everyone love for me back at home.

ofa lahi atu!

Love, Elder Berry

Oh and mom I got the calendar. I love it. Thank you so much!

Week of Feb. 9th

Male Famili,

So me and my comp went to our friend’s house the Atoa family. We were just chilling  in the house when all of a sudden the dad, stormed through the door with one of the pigs and it was just squealing and going crazy. He told us to come help him so me and my comp grabbed the pig and  held it down, and he pulled out a knife–we thought he was going to kill the pig, but he took his man hood away! hahahaha I was dying laughing, but I was hurtin’ at the same time. The pig was squealing and I felt bad for him, ya know? After we were done he rolled in some dirt and walked it off like a man. haha

We got finally got a ward mission leader and we have been working hard this week with this guy. His name is Siliako. He’s a cool guy. This week we visited every member and less active member in this area. We like talked to people we’ve never seen or met before. It was crazy, but we shared a spiritual thought with all of them and invited them to church. It was tight because when yesterday rolled around 3 of the non active members showed up and they stayed for all 3 hours.

Oh, and speaking about church, me and my comp had to speak. It was bad news…,but I was able to get through it alive. I only spoke a little English at the end, but besides that it was all in Tongan. It was about a 10 minute talk. I was dreading it all week cause I was so nervous, but the topic was missionary work, so it was pretty easy to talk about. Just have to say it all in Tongan and have everyone understand my message.

I said last week my comp is the new district leader. So we had to go interview 3 people this week for baptism and my comp was so nervous, but I didn’t have to do a thing. I like rolled with one of the zone leaders and we went to town and ate some food and just kicked it for an hour, haha! Just playing! We were dropping off packages to the elders in our zone. It was fun, and after my comp got done interviewing, we were on our way home and we saw a group of people cutting the grass on this property. They were all using machetes, so we all stopped, and got out to go help. It took about an hour and a half to cut it all and clear it all out. There was like 30 of us. That’s how big this property was, but it was fun and I got to meet a lot of new people and visit with them.

This week was pretty solid, and it went by super slow for some odd reason? Not much teaching went on this week. School started, so the kids are way busy and no one’s really home cause everyone’s out in the bush or in school. We’ve been going to the houses at night and helping the kids out with homework. Mostly with their English and math. These kids are so smart! It surprises me., but the parents appreciate us helping them out. That was my week. Nothing too crazy just trying to find a new investigator. The church wasn’t able to fine Munila’s file, so we might have to baptize her again. All we have to do is review with her and she should be good.

Mom-the food is good. And the fruit is okay. Im not a big fan of the fruit here, but I eat it anyway cause its healthy. I finally got my shoes from the office so I’ve been running every morning. I feel like im losing weight but I haven’t seen scale since I left the mtc. I hope all of you guys are doing solid. Tell Brett I love and miss him! And that I wish I could of been there at his play. I miss all of you guys so much! You’re all in my prayers and I can definitely feel your guys’. I love you guys. ofa lahi atu!

Successful week!

Malo e lelei Famili,

I won’t lie this week was pretty solid! A lot of success went down this week. I mean not like a lot… but enough to make me happy, haha. So this week me and my comp just were finishing up teaching Aisake. This is kid is only 9 but he’s so smart. He’s not shy and he answers the majority of our questions. He’s a tight kid.

So the baptism…we switched it to Sunday instead of Saturday cause Aisake’s dad isn’t a member, and a lot of his family are baptized but they’re mamalohi (inactive). We thought if we had the baptism on Sunday they would have to come to church. It was good. I was so nervous for the baptism. I didn’t want to mess it up in Tongan, because it’s like the sacrament, it has to be perfect. So I was sorta stressin’ a little bit about of it, ya know?

But it was all good, I got it down and it was solid. The baptism went good and during sacrament we confirmed him. It was fast Sunday, and it was testimony meeting, and Aisake’s mom got up and bore her testimony. It was good. She was apologizing for not being a good member and how she’s so grateful for her kids to grow up in this church. It turned out to be a really good day. Later that night we just went up to the Atoas families house and Aisakes family was there and we did scripture and prayer with them. After we just visited and hung out with all the kids. Definitely a great experience for me. I’m so grateful to get this opportunity to serve the Lord and bring his children back to him. I haven’t stopped smiling since yesterday. So it’s been good. I hope that we’re able to teach Kesipeni soon. We figured out why he ditched out on us, because we’ve been seeing him around. He’s not very good at reading, and when we asked him if he could read the first time we taught him, he got really shy and embarrassed. So he got mad and left and just avoided being taught. But we talked to him and he said he’ll think about it. I’ve been praying he accepts because he’s just like his little bro. He’s very smart and he knows this church is true. He just got a little upset, and hopefully he can shake it off.

Update on the mission. On our Pdays, we cant do anything. My comp is our new district leader, so that’s pretty tight. We had 5 missionaries get sent home. 3 from my district, 1 from my zone, and 2 of the 5 were from my kauhu, we were in the MTC together. It was sad to hear about it, but they had things they had to take care of. 3 of them were from Tonga. So it was sort of a dramatic week last week. That’s why my comp is the DL ,because ours got sent home.

All right mom: I finally got pop’s package. Tell him I’m so grateful for it, and so was my comp. Tell him I love and miss him, but I haven’t got the calender. Oh and tell grams I got hers too. Tell her to stop sending me money. I don’t need it, but besides that, everything has been going solid.

I’ve been getting updates with the game and it sounds like my Seahawks are killing it! bahahaha!

I love and miss all of you guys so much! I hope all is going well. You’re all in my prayers. ofa lahi atu!

Love always, Elder Berry

p.s. oh and tell brother Nau from our ward that i ran into his first cousin. his name is koni pa’aia or something like that. He’s from australia and he was visiting.
